Amar Gamal began her study of Middle Eastern dance at the age of twelve with Tamalyn Dallal, and was the first student to audition for and become accepted into the New World School of the Arts High school dance program , using Middle Eastern dance as her talent. Through New World, she studied Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Flamenco, and African dance. She also trained with Antolino Alvarez and became a member of "Dance Express", his Contemporary dance company, and learned Afro Cuban dance, becoming part of "Yroko", under the direction of Elena Garcia. Amar Gamal was one of the original members of the Emerald Dreams Performing Co. since 1991, and is on the board of directors for the Mid Eastern Dance Exchange. She now resides in New York City, where she teaches classes, studies with Yousry Sharif and is a founding member of the "Bellyqueen"
dance troupe Amar Gamal has danced in Haiti, Costa Rica, and
traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lexington,Ky., San
Francisco, and Los Angeles, Ca. to teach workshops. She is
featured in the book "Belly Laughs" in some of her glamorous
encounters.
