Ms. America/Ms. World of the Belly Dance 1995

TAMALYN DALLAL

She traveled to San Francisco to attend the festival and take part in the wonderful workshops that were offered by Dr. Mo Gedawi and Ramzi El Edlibi. The eternal non conformist, she decided to enter the competition, in which there is usually a strong preference toward traditional Egyptian dance...and do something completely non traditional...A double veil, theatrical rendition of a 900 year old Arab Andalous piece played on the piano as opposed to traditional instruments, using a fusion of dance styles from new age belly dance to flamenco and modern. Ms. Dallal won and stirred up quite a controversy over what is authentic, etc. , which gave people something to talk about. Tamalyn Dallal went on to compete in the Ms. World competition of 1995, and won, doing traditional Egyptian style belly dancing. Check out her website: tamalyndallal.com
